چکیده

High-carbon steels which are transformed into extremely fine bainite plates embedded in a matrix of carbon-enriched austenite have recently been developed, and have found commercial application in the manufacture of engineering components. However, because of the large carbon concentration, they cannot be welded and this limits the scope for their exploitation. A method is reported here by which the mixture of bainitic ferrite and retained austenite is regenerated to prevent the austenite that is generated by the heat input during welding, from transforming into brittle martensite. The microstructures of the fusion and austenitised zones were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopes and transmission electron microscopy. Tensile and micro-hardness tests were carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties. Understanding Mechanical Properties of Novel High Strength Steel Weld Metals Through High-Resolution Microstructural Investigations

Shielded metal arc welding and submerged arc welding were used to prepare experimental weld metals with variations in nickel, manganese and carbon contents. The weld metals contained Ni between 6.6 and 10.5 wt. %, Mn between 0.5 and 2.0 wt. % while carbon was varied between 0.03 and 0.11 wt. %. Mechanical properties were found to be sensitive to alloying content. However once the optimum level ...

Welding Research

SEPTEMBER 2006 -s 200 ABSTRACT. The relationship between alloying content, microstructure, and properties has been clarified for highstrength steel weld metals with 7 to 9 wt-% nickel. Neural network modeling suggested that manganese reductions and nickel additions in a controlled manner with respect to manganese lead to increased impact toughness. Carbon additions were predicted to enhance yie...

Ductility of Nanostructured Bainite

Nanostructured bainite is a novel ultra-high-strength steel-concept under intensive current research, in which the optimization of its mechanical properties can only come from a clear understanding of the parameters that control its ductility. This work reviews first the nature of this composite-like material as a product of heat treatment conditions. Subsequently, the premises of ductility beh...

Evaluation of mechanical properties of nanostructured Al 6061 alloy weldment during resistance spot welding process

In this study, The Al 6061 alloy sheets were produced by Cryorolling process and then were welded by resistance spot welding method. In this regard, the solution treated Al 6061 alloy cryorolled subsequently up to 90% reduction in thickness to produce nanostructure alloy. The cryorolled sheets were then subjected to aging treatment (130˚C-30h) in order to obtain simultaneous strength and ductil...
